PCL has been enlisted by Malaysian oil and gas giant PETRONAS to supply its world-leading nitrogen inflation units for a new “green” twin station concept
Dagangan Berhad (PDB) has launched its energy-efficient “twin petrol stations” in the district of Kajang, Selangor, in a strategic position on both the North-South Expressway and the Besraya Highway. This is the first of a series of side-by-side stations being developed as part of PETRONAS’ commitment to the environment.
The new double-layer PETRONAS development has two entrances, enabling drivers on each road to access the service station. This will become the blueprint for PETRONAS service stations in the future.
PETRONAS is developing the connected “one-stop service” stations so that customers can refuel their car, have a meal, go shopping, and deal with personal and business issues all in the same location. This is a completely new lifestyle concept which aims to transform service stations into pleasurable place to have meetings and relax with family and friends, rather than just stop off and refuel.
The stations required tyre inflation equipment, and since the PETRONAS project is focused on optimum energy-saving, PCL was able to provide the perfect solution with two ACCURA A10 inflators in each station, situated alongside two N2I N2 inflators. The products were supplied through its Malaysian distributor, Titan Oil and Gas.
PCL’s “menu-driven” ACCURA electronic preset units have become an established brand throughout the world. Ideal for petrol forecourts, they capture new digital technology in a modern, aesthetic design, offering repeatable accuracy and reduced maintenance and lifestyle costs. The ACCURA A10 is easy to use, featuring auto-start inflation and default to safe setting.
Meanwhile PCL’s N2 inflators can cost effectively exchange air for nitrogen providing drivers with improved vehicle handling, higher safety, increased fuel economy, and extended tyre life. It is so reliable and accurate that it enables the operator to securely continue with alternative work whilst the unit is inflating up to 4 tyres with N2, thus saving time and money.
Other energy-saving features of PETRONAS’ service station include: solar panel facilities generating 200kw per hour – the same amount of electricity used annually by 90 families; a light-emitting diode for better lighting and reduced power consumption; and a rainwater collection system.
“This is basically like a PETRONAS rest and recreation area and it's part of our challenge to see things differently,” said the Senior General Manager of PETRONAS’ Retail business Division Senior, Akbar Md Thayoob.
“PCL’s nitrogen tyre-inflator is an environmentally-friendlier alternative that assists in enhancing fuel economy and tyre life.”
PCL Director, Simon Shorter, said: “As a company committed to the environment, and dedicated to developing high quality products backed up by excellent service, PCL is very proud to have provided our N2I N2 and ACCURA A10 units for PETRONAS’ exciting and innovative new service station concept.
“We are confident that ACCURA’s proven ability to provide accurate and reliable tyre inflation, whilst providing increased fuel savings and extended tyre life, will help make a substantial contribution to energy-savings at PETRONAS’ new station.”
