Family fun day to celebrate PCL's 75 years of success
Since the turn of the century PCL has evolved from a traditional company manufacturing tyre inflators into a dynamic business selling high tech advanced products throughout the world.
So a family fun day for employees at PCL’s state of the art HQ on Holbrook Rise Industrial Estate was the perfect way to celebrate 75 years of manufacturing in Sheffield.
Over 240 family and friends, including 86 staff, enjoyed the circus themed day, which included magicians, stilt walkers, clowns, hog roast and bouncy castle.
The sun shone over the proceedings as the family-focused company reminisced over the changes since PCL was established on 25th June 1938 in the John Street factory in the centre of Sheffield.
The company began producing Tyre Pressure Gauges, and by 1944 it had patented PCL’s unique quick release couplings and adaptors. In 1952 production of pre-set air meters began, by which time PCL had moved to a new factory in Eyre Street.
That factory closed in 1992 and all production was transferred to Holbrook Rise – where past and present employees felt proud to toast the company’s huge success in summer in 2013 - with one member of staff, Bob Attak, winning the special raffle prize of an extra day’s holiday and £150 to spend enjoying it.
Addressing the happy crowd, PCL Managing Director Ian McCreadie, said: “Since the turn of the millennium, PCL has become a more modern company whilst hopefully maintaining its family atmosphere. The branding has been updated, and digital technology successfully implemented. The last ten years has seen consistent substantial growth.
“On occasions like these it is good to look back and remember, and we should do so with pride. However PCL is also about looking forward. In 2038 the next generation will be looking back on 100 years. They will look back to 2013 and see that continued development with new products such as Nitrogen, new markets such as the USA, and investments in China and India.
“However more importantly, I believe they will look back on the people who have made PCL the success it is – and it is those people who are here today helping us celebrate 75 years. Thank you all.”
