XF-Euro Vs 100 Series. Which Coupling Series do I need for my high flow application?

Two of our most popular high flow couplings and adaptors are the XF-Euro and the 100 Series. Both series are manufactured in our state-of-the-art factory and proudly carry the ‘Made in Sheffield’ mark of origin and quality. The 100 series is the oldest range between the two as we began to manufacture this range in the 1960s, while the XF-Euro was introduced in 1996.

We are frequently asked “Which coupling series do I require for my high flow application?”, ultimately, which you choose is down to your preference and which one is compatible with your existing fittings. This guide explains the difference to help you with your decision.

How can I identify an XF-Euro and 100 Series Coupling or Adaptor?

The XF-Euro and 100 Series can be easily identified as the two ranges look very different.

XF-Euro Coupling and Adaptor

XF-Euro Series

The XF-Euro is popular in Europe and the middle east. An XF-Euro Coupling can be easily identified by looking at the edge of the coupling where the pre-fix of the part number is displayed - AC71. The XF also features a blue band to help you identify it as genuine PCL coupling and now comes with a 5 year warranty.

The XF adaptor profile is short and stubby, and will fit into XF-Euro couplings and interchange with couplings with a euro profile.

100 Series Coupling and Adaptor

100 Series

The traditional 100 Series is much heavier and bulkier than the XF-Euro, and displays the pre-fix of the part number - AC5 - on the edge of the coupling. Though the XF has a higher maximum working pressure, the 100 series is still more suitable for larger air tool applications in heavy duty garage, tyre shop and industrial environments than the Standard UK profile.

The 100 series adaptor can be easily identified by the 3 holes at the connection end of the adaptor – these adaptors will only fit 100 Series couplings and vice versa. PCL also manufactures the 60 Series which looks similar to the 100 Series, it is important to identify which coupling and adaptor profile you have as the 60 Series and 100 Series do not interchange. How do the XF-Euro and 100 Series Couplings work?

The XF-Euro features a single action mechanism, therefore suited to fixed high flow applications, however it does feature a steel shoulder to help prevent accidental disconnection so can be used for trailing hose applications.

The 100 series has a swivel feature to prevent hose kinking and a double action mechanism, gives you peace of mind - therefore more suitable for trailing hose applications.

What thread sizes are included in each range?

The XF-Euro Series offers the largest range of thread types and sizes between the two ranges.

XF-Euro Couplings and Adaptors are available with an integral hose tailpiece, male or female BSP thread with sizing ranging from 1/4" to 1/2".

100 Series Couplings and Adaptors are available in male or female BSP thread with sizes ranging from 3/8" to 1/2". The 100 Series Adaptor is also available with an integral hose tailpiece.
